The Special Investigating Unit is continuing the search for eight luxury vehicles linked to businessman Hangwani Morgan Maumela in its probe of alleged looting at Tembisa Hospital.
On 30 October 2026 the SIU-appointed curator and investigators visited a property in Midrand after an anonymous whistleblower reported that a Bentley belonging to Maumela had been concealed there by an associate. The vehicle was not found.
SIU spokesperson Selby Makgotho said the eight outstanding vehicles comprise four Ferraris, three Porsches and one Bentley. The curator already has possession of 15 other vehicles linked to the investigation.
The unit is acting under Special Tribunal preservation orders. Last year the SIU obtained orders preserving assets valued at hundreds of millions of rands connected to what it has called the “Maumela Syndicate.” Earlier seizures included multiple Lamborghinis, Aston Martins and a Rolls-Royce. The Special Tribunal has authorised the sale of a Ferrari SF90 Stradale with a minimum price of R9.5 million.
The investigation has identified large numbers of procurement bundles and suppliers linked to the hospital. Maumela remains a key suspect in the alleged R2 billion scandal.
