Sibonelo Nomvalo, the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party's former secretary-general, says an AI-generated picture of him taking money from ANC leaders was one of the reasons he was dismissed.
Speaking at his first media briefing since his removal, Nomvalo said "fake" intelligence reports about him had been submitted to the party's leadership.
What Nomvalo says
Nomvalo said he was not surprised by the decision, adding that there had been many earlier attempts to remove him. Some of those, he said, came through intelligence reports submitted to party founder Jacob Zuma, and one report accused him of being a spy for the ANC.
He also denied working with President Cyril Ramaphosa and denied plotting to remove Zuma. These are his claims and have not been independently verified.
Background
The MK Party removed Nomvalo as secretary-general last week, a decision we reported on 23 October. His briefing was his first since the dismissal. The party faces the 4 November local government elections.
What we do not yet know
We have not seen a response from the MK Party to Nomvalo's claims. We also do not know the party's stated reasons for the dismissal, and neither the AI-generated image nor the intelligence reports have been verified by Insight Factor.
