Two of the four men accused of the Reiger Park killings will remain in custody after the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court refused their bail applications on Tuesday.
Regan Cheslin Collis, 23, and Jamal Meyer, 24, were denied bail. Their co-accused, Elvino Levert Crafford, 27, and McFoolen Ford, 26, were each granted bail of R5,000, with conditions set by the court.
The four face four counts of murder, two counts of robbery with aggravating circumstances and charges under the Firearms Control Act. The charges arise from a shooting in Reiger Park, Ekurhuleni, on 7 August 2026, in which four people were killed.
Anti-Gang Unit constables Thapelo Tlomatsana and Siphiwe Sibeko were shot dead. Two women, Roleen Lessing and Jaydin Margerman, were also killed. The officers were on a crime-prevention patrol when they were ambushed, and the two women were caught in the shooting.
The court found that Collis and Meyer had not given sufficient reasons to be released. In Collis’s case it cited pending matters and evidence that he had threatened witnesses. In Meyer’s case it found prima facie evidence linking him to the alleged offences.
The four have denied involvement and have offered alibis. They have also told the court that police forced them to confess. They said they could each afford bail of R2,000.
State prosecutor Matthews Rampyapedi told the court the investigation was not finished and that more arrests could follow. “There are other suspects that are outstanding in this matter,” he said.
Ballistic analysis of firearms and cartridges, one witness statement, a facial comparison of CCTV footage and forensic reports on the video are still outstanding, he said. He asked for a postponement so investigators could finish that work.
The case was postponed to 1 December.
